     Jacob Schaper was born on 26 July 1887 in Gaasterland, Friesland, Netherlands.1,3 He married Cornelia W. Schaper, daughter of Leonard Littel and Cornelia Littel.1 Jacob Schaper died on 7 October 1939 in Newburgh, Orange County, New York.1 He was buried in Ridgewood (Valleau Cemetery).1
     On 24 March 1904 is the registration of the official recognition of Jacob by his father.4 He and Walter Leentjes immigrated on the Nieuw Amsterdam, from Rotterdam (22 Apr 1911), arriving in New York on 1 May 1911. They were going to their uncle A. Faber in Ridgewood. Both listed their father as their contact in Holland. Jacob was from Balk, Wopke van Sloten.1,2 He was re-elected as diaken in the Dutch Reformed Church at Wortendyke, Bergen County, New Jersey.5 Jacob Schaper was in the scavenger business in Ridgewood, Bergen County, New Jersey with his uncle Auke Faber.1 Jacob Schaper and Cornelia W. Schaper lived in 1927 in West Saddle River Road, Ridgewood, Bergen County, New Jersey.6 Jacob Schaper worked in 1935 for the Franklin Lakes Dairy Products, 510 West Saddle River Road, Ridgewood, Bergen County, New Jersey, proprietor Harvey B. Greene.7 He and Cornelia W. Schaper lived in 1934 in State Highway #2, Ridgewood, Bergen County, New Jersey.7,1 The 1937 directory lists them as removed to New York, although Cornelia seems to be listed as a bookkeeper in Little Falls, with rental at 510 West Saddle River Road.8

Jacob Schaper, of Chester, NY, formerly of Ridgewood, where he was in charge of the scavenger service for many years, died on Saturday night, October 7 in a hospital in Newburgh, NY after an illness of several months. Mr Schaper was born in Holland 53 yrs ago, and came to this country in 1911. He settled in Ridgewood on West Saddle River Road, and immediately went into the scavenger business with his uncle, Isaac Faber, until 1917, when he took over the exclusive contract for this territory. This he held until 1935, when the contract was transferred to Capasso & Pucillo. He then moved to Chester. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Funeral Home of Jacob H. Olthuis in Midland Park, and then at the First Holland Reformed Church of that Borough, with the Rev. A. A. Schermer, assisted by the Rev. Oliver Breen of Goshen, NY, officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Valleau Cemetery. Mr. Schaper is survived by his widow Cornelia W., six children, two brothers and three sisters.1
