     Cornelius Maas was born in 1893 in Netherlands.1 He married Agnes Nawyn, daughter of Albertus Nawyn and Bartje Glas.1 Cornelius Maas died on 9 January 1975 in Pompton Plains, Bergen County, New Jersey, (Chilton Memorial Hospital).1 He was buried in Totowa (Laurel Grove Memorial Park).1
     Cornelius Maas immigrated with Cornelius P. Maas and Jantje C. Maas on the Potsdam, from Rotterdam (Mar 20, 1909), arriving in New York on 31 Mar 1909, with seven children: Cornelis (17), Willemina Kl. (15), Klaartje W. (14), Jacob (10), Jannetje (9), Maria (8) and Johannes (1). They were going to his brother H. W. Verbaarschal, 17 Watson Street, Paterson. Last residence was Texel, contact his father Pieter Maas.2

Cornelius Maas, 83, of 11 Michel Road, died yesterday in Chilton Memorial Hospital, Pompton Plains. He was born in the Netherlands and came to the US 65 yrs ago. He lived in North Haledon before moving to Oak Ridge a year ago. He was a retired mason. He was also a retired school crossing guard in North Haledon. Mr Maas was a member of Gospel Tabernacle and was active in Christian work, preaching and visiting shut-ins. He is survived bij his wife, the former Agnes Nawyn, 4 daughters, 5 sons, 2 brothers, Peter and Joseph, both of Prospect Park, and 4 sisters, Minnie Meyer and Clara Bokma, both of Hawthorne, and Jeanett Tanis and Marie Van Eck, both of Prospect Park. One son Walter died in 1945. Services will be Saturday at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park.1

1920 Fed. census: Household of Cornelius Maas, 218 Haledon Ave, Prospect Park Borough, Passaic County, New Jersey. Household consists of Cornelius, his wife Agnes and two children: Betty (2 + 5mo) and Cornelius Jr. (1 + 5mo), both born in NJ.4
