     Joos Den Herder was born on 14 April 1893 in Yerseke, Zuid Beveland, Zeeland, Netherlands.1,2,3 He married Maria Filius, daughter of Pieter Filius and Jacomina Johanna Maghielse, on 12 July 1917 in Yerseke, Zuid Beveland, Zeeland.1,3 Joos Den Herder died on 14 April 1966 in Wyckoff, Bergen County, New Jersey, (183 Wyckoff Ave).1 He was buried on 18 April 1966 in Fair Lawn (Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery).1
     His parents were Joos den Herder and Johanna Slimmens.3 He and Maria Filius immigrated in 1929.1

Joos Den Herder, 73, of 183 Wyckoff Ave., died Thursday at home after an apparent heart attack. A native of the Netherlands, he came to the US in 1929, and settled in Passaic. He had lived in Wyckoff for the past 32 years. Mr. Den Herder was married to the former Maria Filius. He was a nurseryman by trade. The funeral services will be held Monday in the Vermeulen Memorial Funeral Home, 131 Haledon Ave., Paterson. The Rev. Adrian Breeman, pastor of the Bethany Reformed Church, Prospect Park, will officiate. Interment will follow in Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons: George of Clifton and Pieter of Midland Park; two daughters: Mrs Edward (Johanna) Dunn of Glastonbury, CT and Mrs Ray (Jackie) Verkade of Wayne; his mother Johanna of the Netherlands; four brothers: Gerard of Mendham, Janus of Wayne, and Marinus and Martinus of the Netherlands; and three sisters: Mrs. Gertrude van Peenen of Wayne, Mrs. Tannetje Hoogstraate and Miss Dina, both of the Netherlands.1
