George Vander May, founder of Little Falls Laundry dies after hard struggle with death lasting several months. Mrs. Nicholas Kuiken, of Fair Lawn, receives condolences.
George Vander May, the founder of the Little Falls Laundry, is dead. Mr. and Mrs. Vander May came from Friesland, Holland, 40 yrs ago, and the family was townspeople and neighbors of the Kuiken family which has many branches in Fair Lawn.
Mr. Vander May started a wetwash plant in Little Falls. Gradually he increased the plant and the assistance of his six sons, he succeeded in building one of the largest and modern laundry establishments in the State of New Jersey. Most of his success was due to his honesty and accuracy and his practical appliance of modern machinery. Every department of the large plant stood under the direct personal supervision by one of the members , with George Sen. as general director. Moreover, the family co-operation at the plant was used as model and method of soliciting trade. Laundry trade comes from families and by knowing best all requirements for clean, hygenic family laundry work, the Vander May's became experts and masters of all details, bringing satisfaction and results where others failed.
George Vander May left for the Great Unknown at the age of 66. He leaves behind a widow, Julia, six boys and four girls. All boys are connected with the Little Falls mammoth plant, one of the girls is the wife of Nicholas Kuiken, of Fair Lawn. Many of the Fair Lawn citizens were on intimate terms with the founder of the great Little Falls enterprise and it is with much regret and sorrow they heard of the news of George Vander May's death.1
