Joukje Hempenius was born on 17 March 1865 in Menaldumadeel, Friesland, Netherlands.1,2 She married John Belanus.1 Julia Belanus died on 11 February 1938 in Midland Park, Bergen County, New Jersey, (152 Hill Street).1 She was buried in Ridgewood (Valleau Cemetery).1
Her parents were Kornelis Geerts Hempenius and Taetske Klazes de Vries.2

Julia Belanus, widow of John Belanus, who died on Dec 23 last, passed away on Friday morning, February 11 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel DeVries, 158 Hill Street, Midland Park. Had she lived she would have been 73 in St. Patrick's Day. death followed a protracted illness. Mrs. Belanus, whose maiden name was Hempenius, was born in Friesland, The Netherlands, and came to this vountry in 1888, settling in Ridgewood. She and her husband first lived on Highwood Avenue, but soon moved to Chestnut Street, where they spent many years, afterwards going to Midland Park. She is survived by 7 children -- Matthew Belanus, the Ridgewood coal dealer; Garret Belanus of Midland Park; Mrs. de Vries; Mrs. Martin Westhouse of Ridgewood; Cornelius Belanus of Saddle River; Charles Belanus of Jacksonville, AL; and Mrs. John DeWitt of Prospect Park; and 20 grandchildren.
The funeral services took place on Monday in the Christian Reformed Church of Midland Park, the Rev. Elbert Kooistra officiating. Interment was in Valleau.1
