Paul Van Laere1

     Paul Van Laere was born in 1881 in Sas van Gent, Zuid Beveland, Zeeland, Netherlands.1,2 He married Louisa Amelia Jacobs on 17 September 1908 in Terneuzen, Zeeuws Vlaanderen, Zeeland, Netherlands.1,2 Paul Van Laere died on 28 February 1953 in Ridgewood, Bergen County, New Jersey, (371 East Glen Ave).1 He was buried in Mahwah (Maryrest Cemetery).1,3
     His parents were Jacobus van Laere and Maria Theresia Biscop.2 He and Louise Van Laere immigrated on the Lapland, from Antwerp (7 May 1910), arriving 16 May 1910 in New York. Their son Maurice Van Laere is with them. They list his brother T. van Laere as contact in Sas van Gent. They are going to a friend Jan (or Joe) Schiele (or Schenk?), in Lodi, NJ.1,4

Paul Van Laere, of 371 East Glen Avenue, Ridgewood, died last Saturday at his home at teh age of 72. Born in Holland, he came to the US 42 yrs ago and for some time conducted an ice business in Ridgewood, retiring about 10 yrs ago. A Requiem Mass was celebrated at Mt. Carmel R. C. Church Tuesday morning. Burial was in MAryrest Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Jacobs, one son, Maurice, of Bloomfield, a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Paquin of Ridgewood, and 6 grandchildren; also several brothers in Holland.1
