Alida Vermeer1

     Alida Vermeer was born on 11 January 1892 in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands.2,3 She married Jan Hendrik Vermeer on 10 January 1912 in Amsterdam, North Holland.2 Alida Vermeer died on 5 March 1976 in New Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey, (Heritage Hall Nursing Home).2,3 She was buried on 8 March 1976 in North Bergen (Garden State Crematorium).3
     Her parents were Andries Leeman en Sophia van den Berg.2 She and Johan Vermeer immigrated on the Nieuw Amsterdam, from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on 12 Jan 1914. Their last residence was Rotterdam. Their contact in Holland is his father P. Vermeer, Alexanderkade 7, Amsterdam. They were going to New York, their contact is the Holland America Line, 21-24 State Street, NY. Three other HAL employees are travelling with them.3,1

Aldia Vermeer died Friday in the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, New Shrewsbury. She was 84. Born in Holland, she came to the US in 1912 and lived in Hoboken and Weehawken before moving to Wood-Ridge in 1971. She is survived by a son and one granddaughter. Her husband John died in 1945. Services will be tomorrow in the Kohler Funeral Home, 280 Hackensack St., Wood-Ridge. Cremation will be in the Garden State Crematory.3

1920 Fed. census: Household of John Vermeer, 909 Bloomfield Street (2nd Ward), Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey. Household consists of John, his wife Alice and a son Peter (5), listed as born in Holland, but he does not immigrate with them.4
