His parents were Wouter Heerschap and Klaartje Kasseband.2 Jacob Heerschap and Dirkje Westhoeve immigrated on the Veendam, from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on 6 Jan 1893. They are from Oudorp, and are going to Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey.1,3

She marries Poulus Ruit on 27 May 1870 in Ouddorp. Both her paternal grandmother and her mother are Heerschap, but the relationship with Jacob is not close.4,5

On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. J. Heerschap of 310 Montgomery Street, Passaic, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Their home was decorated with flowers as if it were summer. They were married in Holland and came in 1892 to this country, where there children were born. Six are still living. The couple received many gifts, and they passed a companionable evening with many friends (Original in Dutch).1
